The short answer#
Of everything on this site, Athlytic is the most similar product to Shindo, and it is also the cheapest. Both are iPhone apps that read Apple Health and produce a daily recovery reading without asking you to buy a band.
Athlytic tells you how recovered you are. Shindo tells you how recovered you are and then decides what you should train. If you already know what you are training and just want a Whoop-style score from the watch you own, Athlytic does that well and costs less.
What each one is#
Athlytic is an iOS app, designed around Apple Watch, that reads Apple Health and produces a daily Recovery score, an Exertion score and a Sleep score, plus HRV trends and a habit journal. It has a free tier, with a Pro upgrade adding advanced HRV analytics, trends and personalised insights — $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year as of 30 August 2026. (Athlytic raised these from $2.99/$24.99 earlier in 2026, so older comparisons on the web still quote the lower figures.)
Shindo reads the same Apple Health data and produces a readiness score with its four drivers, but continues into training: training stress per session, fitness, fatigue and form, a weekly plan with training phases, an 80/20 intensity split and a capped ramp, plan-to-actual matching when you deviate, load-linked nutrition targets, and an AI morning report.

The honest framing of the price gap#
Shindo Pro costs roughly four times Athlytic Pro, and pretending otherwise would be silly. What the difference buys is the training half: periodized plan generation, per-sport load modelling, threshold and zone estimation from your own history, plan-to-actual adaptation, and nutrition targets. If you do not want a training plan, you should not pay for one — the comparison genuinely favours Athlytic there.
Note also that both have real free tiers. Shindo’s free tier includes readiness with its drivers, the engine-built weekly plan, the fitness-fatigue-form charts and full workout detail for your most recent 60 days, so the two can be compared without paying either.
When Athlytic is the better choice#
- You want a recovery score and nothing more. It is focused, cheaper and does that job well.
- You are firmly Apple Watch-centred and want an app built specifically around it.
- You already have a training plan — from a coach, a book, a club — and only need to know whether today is a good day to execute it.
- Price is the deciding factor. It is materially cheaper.
When Shindo fits better#
- You are self-coached and want the plan built and maintained for you.
- You train more than one discipline and want load scored per sport onto one fatigue curve.
- You want thresholds and zones derived from your own history rather than from age.
- You want fuelling tied to the training you actually did.
- You want the computation published rather than proprietary — Shindo’s methodology documents every constant.
Do they conflict?#
No. Both read Apple Health and neither writes anything that would confuse the other (Shindo writes back only the daily totals of meals you log). Running both for a couple of weeks and comparing the two daily scores on the same underlying data is a reasonable way to decide, and costs nothing.
